Privacy Policy
This policy describes what information Astra Stella LLC ("we", "us") collects when you use this website (astrastella.design), purchase our services, or use the digital tools we publish — including the figure skating scoring calculator and other projects published under Nathalie Chou Lab. It explains how that information is used, who it is disclosed to and how, and the security practices that protect it.
The short version: we collect only what is needed to answer your messages, process your purchase, and operate your license. We keep no customer database of our own, we set no advertising or tracking cookies, and we never sell or rent your information.
1. Information We Collect
Messages and inquiries
When you contact us — by email, or through the contact form on our support page — we receive the details you choose to send: how to address you, your email address, an optional phone number, and your message.
Purchases and billing
Payments are handled entirely by our payment processors, Stripe (and, where offered, PayPal). When you buy a service or a software license, you enter your name, email address, and payment details on the processor's own secure checkout page. Your card number never reaches our systems. From the processor we receive only what is needed to fulfill the order: your email address, the transaction confirmation, and the status of your subscription.
License activation
Pro licenses for our software tools can be activated on a limited number of devices. When you activate, we process your license key, a device name you choose, and an activation timestamp. This activation record is stored as metadata on your subscription record inside the payment processor's systems — we operate no separate database of customer information.
Information stored on your device only
Our tools remember preferences — such as your language choice, license status, and any programs or work you save in a tool — in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. Camera-based demos on our project sites process camera input locally in your browser; camera images are never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
Technical data
Like virtually every website, our hosting providers process standard connection data (such as your IP address and browser type) in server logs to deliver pages and defend against abuse. When served from its production host, the site may also collect anonymous page-performance metrics (page-speed timings) to keep it fast. We use no advertising cookies, no analytics profiles, and no cross-site tracking.
2. How We Use Information
- To process your purchase, deliver what you bought, and issue, validate, or deactivate software licenses.
- To read and answer your messages and provide customer support.
- To keep the sites fast, secure, and free of abuse and fraud.
- To meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build marketing lists from it, and we never sell, rent, or trade it.
3. Who We Disclose Information To
We share information only with the service providers required to operate the sites and fulfill your orders:
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing (Stripe privacy policy).
- PayPal — payment processing, where offered as an option (PayPal privacy statement).
- FormSubmit — a form-delivery service that relays contact-form submissions to our inbox.
- Vercel and GitHub Pages — hosting infrastructure that serves the sites and processes standard server logs; Vercel also provides the anonymous page-speed metrics described above.
- Google Fonts — your browser fetches font files from Google's servers, which see your IP address in the process.
Beyond these providers, we disclose information only if required by law, or to protect our legal rights. There are no other recipients.
4. How Information Is Disclosed
All disclosure happens over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and in most cases you transmit the data directly to the provider yourself:
- Checkout details are entered on Stripe's or PayPal's own hosted payment pages and travel directly from your browser to the processor — they pass through no server of ours.
- Contact-form submissions are posted over HTTPS to FormSubmit, which relays them to our inbox by email.
- License activation and validation requests travel over HTTPS between the tool in your browser and our licensing endpoint, which reads and writes only the subscription record held at the payment processor.
No information is ever disclosed by sale, by data-sharing agreement with advertisers, or through tracking technologies.
5. Security Practices
- Encryption in transit — every page, form, and API endpoint is served exclusively over HTTPS/TLS.
- No card data on our systems — payment details are handled end-to-end by PCI-DSS-certified processors (Stripe, PayPal).
- Data minimization — we collect only what each function needs, and preferences and saved work stay in your own browser rather than on a server.
- No standing customer database — billing and license records live inside the payment processors' secured systems, protected by their infrastructure and audited controls.
- Restricted access — access to business records and processor dashboards is limited to Astra Stella LLC's operator and protected by authentication; API credentials are kept in secured server-side configuration, never in client code.
6. Retention and Your Rights
Correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry. Billing records are retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires. License activation records persist for the life of your subscription and can be cleared when it ends.
You may request a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (except records we must keep by law) by writing to nathalie@astrastella.net or via our contact page. Note that deleting license records may end the validity of an active license.
7. Children
Our sites and services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be noted on this page.
